Oh Come All Ye Tasteful: And Some Christmas Items Tried And Tested…

This week I have a special round up of all things Festive. All the things that I am loving at the moment. Some things I have been sent for review, some things I have purchased from the shops, some things I have already eaten!

1.) Cook Book: Oh Come All Ye Tasteful – The Foodie’s Guide to a Millionaire’s Christmas Feast written by : Ian Flitcroft. Around this time every year we like to find new seasonal recipes and try them out. I can get lost in a new recipe book, even more so when it is full of Christmas recipes. Now which recipe to try first!?! Oh yes coffee and cream.

Irish Coffee:

Ingredients:

  • Good strong coffee
  • Double cream or whipping cream, very lightly whisked
  • Soft brown sugar
  • Irish whiskey

About the book:

  • The witty and hilarious Christmas cookbook is called ‘Oh Come All Ye Tasteful’ by Ian Flitcroft. ‘Oh Come All Ye Tasteful’ will help you create a Christmas dinner that is so wildly impressive that even the most curmudgeonly great aunt or begrudging mother-in-law will swoon.
  • The book comprises a mixture of commentary and recipes to help you forget about the recession and celebrate the festive period like a King! Who’s for cooking a truffled turkey, brussels sprouts petit fours or reindeer nibbles? Read this over-the-top and hilariously funny guide to the festive period to find out how.

2.) Mince pies: Well it would be rude not to. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth so anything in the sugar department gets my attention straight away! I have a bit of a love hate relationship with mince pies. I like the idea of them but not a fan of currants, raisins etc. Put some whipped cream on top though, mmmm. Pastry mmmm.

Crumbly all butter pies with a brandy laced mincemeat. They give you a nice warm glow after eating one. Perfect for an after dinner treat. I also had one with a nice glass of Rose wine over the weekend. So far these brandy laced mince pies are my favourite from Aldi. I like the idea of making my own, but they never taste as good as the shop bought ones.

  • Do you like to make your own?
  • Do you like to buy from a shop?
  • Which brand are your favourite ones?
  • Do you like them with alcohol in them?

3.) Babycham, the original girl’s party drink, is making a comeback this festive season. The sweet, refreshing perry that launched in 1953 is still sparkling over 60 years on and is guaranteed to bring a touch of retro nostalgia to any Christmas party.

I remember this being of one of  my first alcoholic drinks. I bought them in sweet little bottles. I also have these retro glasses on the shelf. An excuse then to have a bottle in at Christmas.

4.) Nut crackers: Last year we could not find a nut cracker anywhere. We searched everywhere but the only ones we could find were ridiculously expensive. With delivery after Christmas! Useless then. I saw this nut and nutcracker set in Lidl a few weeks ago for £2.99. I just had to buy it straight away!

5.) Christmas jumpers : I have a review of some Funky Christmas Jumpers here if you would like to read it?

6.) Chocolate pennies : I love seeing these at Christmas. Again bringing back childhood memories. When my Grandma used to buy them for me..

What Christmas goodies have you been buying lately?

Oh my goodness what a wonderful Christmassy post! I love it! Your images are so evocative of happy Christmas times. I never get to wear funky Christmas jumpers, or even ugly ones, because it's always so hot in Australia at Christmas time. But I've seen in our news recently that someone has designed beach rash vests to look like Christmas jumpers. I'm so excited. I can finally take part in this grand tradition. I'm also going to keep an eye out for Babycham! #abitofeverything

I've just been debating on twitter whether it's too soon to start on the mince pies . . . I'm sorely tempted! Thanks for sharing your review on #TriedTested this week x
