Nottingham Gets Set To Celebrate National Walking Month. With ‘One Big Walk In The Park’. Hello Friends, so how are you today? Did you also know May is National Walking Month? Number one fitness activity in our house? Walking of course!!

I love to walk a few hours each and every day, a good job really with a Border Collie in tow. Whenever we have spare time as a family we like to think of new places to explore and discover. You really can appreciate the world around you, on a nice leisurely walk.

On Saturday 20th May, Nottingham residents are invited to put their best foot forward. To celebrate National Walking Month.

With ‘One Big Walk in the Park’ – a series of fun, free walking activities hosted by ParkLives and Nottingham City Council.

The event will take place from 2.30 – 4.30pm at Wollaton Country Park. It will see ParkLives teams joined by representatives from Age UK Nottingham and Midlands Nordic Walking, to host a 3.5mile walk from the Grade I listed Wollaton Hall to Martin’s Pond.

Participants will also get the chance to try their hand at Nordic walking along the route.

So what a great event!? A chance to also get out walking, keep fit and meet new people. Wollaton Country Park is one of our top destinations in Nottingham.

Whether it be for a picnic, XCountry run or just a frisbee session with the dog.

A fantastic place to unwind and relax. In fact, we were only there this past Sunday afternoon. Beautiful. We had a lovely walk up to the hall, a nice look inside. Some Pokemon hunting (don’t ask!!)

As always a trip to Wollaton is not complete without a glance of the deer. A great afternoon for all the family.

Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, says:

“More than a fifth of our city is made up of open and green spaces. But so many of us don’t take advantage of them. Through ParkLives’ ‘One Big Walk in the Park’ we’re hoping to inspire the people of Nottingham to explore their local park and discover the fun you can have on a walk outdoors.”

Adds Stevie Lord, ParkLives session leader:

“Walking is hugely beneficial to your overall wellbeing and something as simple as a walk in the park can help you think more clearly. It’s always great to see local residents come to together at my regular Nordic walking session at Wollaton Park and we hope lots of people will join us on our ‘One Big Walk in the Park’ at Wollaton Country Park this Saturday.”

Liz Lowe, ParkLives lead at Coca-Cola Great Britain, said:

“We offer so many activities through ParkLives, but you really can’t beat a good walk in the park! Whether you take a stroll to relax, bring the dog with you, or take on a challenge like Nordic walking, a walk in the park can be good for the mind, body and soul. We hope that our ‘One Big Walk in the Park’ initiative helps more people in Nottingham – and people across the country – enjoy walking in their local parks more often.”

To join ParkLives One Big Walk in the Park, visit Parklives to book a place, or simply turn up on the day.

The meeting point is the War Memorial above the upper car park near Wollaton Hall.

If you have never been to Wollaton before I strongly recommend a visit. The views are breath-taking and if all the walking tires you out, you can just sit down enjoying the view.

It will be a great day, I am sure.

Do you live near Nottingham and want to attend this event? Click the Parklives link above to find out more. Let me know if you go on Saturday. I would also love to hear how it went. Share me some pics.
