Easy Christmas Mincemeat: Mince Pie Filling Recipe. Hello friends. So how are you today? If you live in the UK and watch the TV you would have seen all the Christmas adverts in full swing last night? It has me thinking of Christmas baking! Mince pies, anyone?

Easy Christmas Mincemeat. We love Christmas and baking lots of treats, especially mince pies but have never got around to making our own mincemeat. So today I am sharing an easy peasy lemon squeezy idea with you 🙂 Fancy making your own fruit mincemeat recipe for all your Christmas baking this year?

This recipe from Whitworths, looks top quality, tasty and easy to make, going to give this a go near to Christmas. So does anyone else fancy trying? If mince pies are a family favourite, this year why not create your own mincemeat filling.

Easy Christmas Mincemeat Step By Step Guide:

Easy to pre-prepare, freeze, then defrost when needed this mincemeat recipe uses either; Whitworths’ Mixed Fruit, or a combination of Whitworths Sultanas, Raisins and Currants, to create a rich, flavoursome finished product, without the addition of preservatives.

Ingredients:

  • 300g Whitworths Sultanas
  • 300g Whitworths Raisins
  • 100g Whitworths Currants
  • 200g Mixed Peel
  • 450g Chunky Apple Sauce
  • 1 orange, grated zest
  • 75g Whitworths Chopped Almonds
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 450g Soft Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 100g Shredded Suet
  • 1 lemon, grated zest & juice
  • 100ml of rum or brandy (optional)

Easy Christmas Mincemeat: Mince Pie Filling Recipe Step One:

Easy Christmas Mincemeat:

  1. Firstly, mix all ingredients together thoroughly in a large mixing bowl.

Then Either:

  1. Use homemade or shop bought short-crust pastry to create delicious mince pies. 
  2. Tip: use a festive shaped pastry cutter, such as a snowflake, to add interest.
  3. Place in sterilised jars and decorate with a ribbon and tag as a gift for a friend or family member, so they can make their own mince pies.
  4. Separate into 200g batches and freeze in freezer containers or sealable bags.
  5. The mincemeat will keep frozen for up to 4 months.
  6. When required, thaw overnight before use.
  7. If not freezing, store in the fridge.

    It's a very old traditional food in England, where I live, and yes it used to have meat in the original recipe but during the war the meat was hard to find so it turned in to a fruity Christmas mince pie. 🙂

    I feel so silly. I thought mince meat pie had some sort of meat in it. Sort of like a chicken pot pipe! This recipe looks so good! I'm glad I now know what all the fuss is about!
