HelloFresh Recipe Box Review: Meal Ingredients, Ready To Cook

This post is commissioned for HelloFresh but as always, all thoughts are my own.

HelloFresh Recipe Box Review.

Mum “Whats for Dinner?”

Do you ever get fed up with having the same meal plan? Day after day, week after week? I know I do.

I love to find new recipes to try out but I never have the full ingredients in. Then when I do get to the supermarkets, you can guarantee I have lost or forgotten my list. Grrr!!!!

So we usually stick to the old favourite meals, but even these can get boring every week.

This week HelloFresh came to the rescue and sent us one of their classic recipe boxes to review. We got sent a classic 3 meals for 4 people package to try. How nice!? I have never had a recipe box before so I was interested in giving them a taste test.

Dinner is Solved.

All the fresh, pre-portioned ingredients you need to cook delicious weekly recipes, delivered to your door. Easy.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Look how big my parcel is! Our box was full of fresh meal ideas. All well-packed ingredients in the box too. All of our fresh fridge products were wrapped tightly in an insulated bag with a freeze pack, to keep them nicely chilled. They had not even started to melt.

Our recipe box contained all the ingredients to make Creamy Linguine, Sausage Chilli and a Beef Kofta Curry. All different to our usual fayre. So everyone is interested in trying some.

Step One:

Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Remove the root and dark green top from the leeks, halve lengthways and slice into thin half moons.

Peel and grate the garlic (or use a garlic press).

Halve, then remove the core from the red peppers and chop into 1cm pieces.

Chop the chives into ½cm pieces.

TIP: Use scissors to do this if you want!

Step Two:

Put a large frying pan on medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil. Add the leeks and red peppers. Cook for 5 mins until soft.

TIP: Don’t worry if they colour slightly, this will just add to the flavour! Slice open the sausage mince, remove the meat. Break the sausage meat into 2cm chunks. Drain and rinse the kidney beans in a sieve.

Step Three:

Once the leaks and peppers are soft, add the sausage meat. Cook until browned, 5 mins. Use a spoon to break it up while it cooks. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper.

Step Four:

Add the garlic, smoked paprika and ground cumin. Cook for 1 minute more. Pour the diced tomatoes and water (amount specified in the ingredient list).

Stir in the beef stock pots (make sure it dissolves), then add the kidney beans. Cook until thick, 10-12 mins.

Step Five:

While the chilli cooks, make the tortilla chips! Cut each tortilla into eight triangles

TIP: You can use kitchen scissors to cut the tortillas if you like!

Step Six:

Place the tortilla chips on a lined baking tray in a single layer and drizzle over some olive oil. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and a grind of black pepper. Pop on the top shelf of your oven for 4-5 mins.

TIP: Keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn!

Step Seven:

Taste the chilli and add more salt and black pepper if necessary. Serve the sausage chilli in bowls with a spoonful of yoghurt on top and a sprinkling of chives. Place the tortilla chips on the side of the bowl (for scooping purposes) and enjoy!

HelloFresh Recipe Box Review:

I really like the idea of this the HelloFresh subscription box. The thing I like most is that you can just pick out meals from the recipes online in the comfort of your own home and have all the ingredients delivered to your door. It really would save a lot of time getting out, shopping and trying to find all the ingredients in the shops.

With all the snow this week it has been a real added bonus to get the meals. If it had not been for this it may well have been just an omelette for tea. So everyone was happy. The chilli was a particular favourite.

There are so many of these boxes here in the states. So tricky being kosher and gf and dairy free though!

Aww yes Tamar. I think someone is missing out on this idea! I bet it would do well too.

What a clever idea! I haven't heard of Hello Fresh before. I love a chilli but i have never used sausage meat, nor have i ever put yogurt on top of it. Looks really delish though!

I think these boxes can work out great as you get all the ingredients that you need so there's no worry that you'll not have something x

    • 13 December 2017 / 18:31

Thanks Rhian. I would be hours in the supermarket trying to find things. I love that you can just pick out what you fancy eating and they run around sorting everything out for you 🙂

I am like you, I try to meal plan but get so bored of doing it, then panic about what we are going to eat. Although my kids aren't fussy as such, they know what they like (and don't like!) so we also tend to stick to the same things! I've seen the boxes before but didn't really know much about them – this sounds really good and the chilli looks perfect!

    • 13 December 2017 / 18:30

Thanks lovely. I really liked the box and this chilli is full of flavours. I can't wait to make it again 🙂
