Time To Move On: Welcome To The Weekend Link Up.
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have fun at this week’s blog hop. Hope your week has been good so far?
My heart was pounding fast when the phone rang yesterday. As I looked at my mobile, I knew who was calling.
I could see the phone number on the screen. I knew it was the hospital. I have been waiting for them to call for 2 and a half week.
I answered it quickly and tried to make my voice sound calm as I waited to hear the Doctor speak.
It was 6 months ago when my Daughter went to Doctors and found out she had Vitiligo. Then a routine blood sample was taken to check to make sure it was nothing else. Then they found out she kept testing positive for Coeliac Disease.
Fast forward a few months. Lots of different blood test, positive and negative results and biopsy. All sounded positive when we were told There Was No Damage To Here Stomach.
The results from the biopsy have now come back and she has tested positive for Coeliac.
After 6 months of blood test after blood test.
On gluten. Off gluten. On gluten.
Hospital appointment after hospital appointment.
Negative test and positive test.
Then a biopsy and a bit of hope, but not got long.
My Daughter results are finally complete and today her lifestyle has had to change forever.
She has got coeliac.
Not the result we wanted but hopefully, we can now move on.
No more blood tests. No more needles.
Now onto sometime a bit more cheerful.
Cake anyone?
I am looking forward to putting a gluten-free twist on a lot of my favourite recipes.
This will be one of my first recipes to change to gluten, methinks
Strawberry and Malted Layer Cake.
Now over to you. What has been happening in your part of the world?

Thank you Cheryl, we are getting better at finding gf food each week so all is good 🙂
Wow what a journey you, your daughter, and family have been through. It is encouraging that there are now so many recipes for gluten free foods. It seems like a difficult thing to switch over to when you're used to eating anything, but once you get into a new routine things will hopefully become easier. Hugs to you Claire!

Thank you Paula. I am guessing the next step will be we all have to get tested 🙁
Hi Claire, It's good you know and now you can control it. My Mom has had it for years and the recipes and boxed mixes have come such a long way. You really can't even taste the difference anymore. I hope she is feeling better soon. Thanks again for hosting a great party!

Aww thank you. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been years ago to find things but I have noticed the shops have got better and better over the last few months as we have been looking out for gluten free things 🙂
At least you know what you are dealing with now, and there are lots of gluten-free options available in the shops. Sending you both my best wishes :-)Emma xxx

Thank you Emma. We are getting there 🙂
I'm so glad you finally have a diagnosis! I'm sure it was a bit disappointing not to get the news you had hoped for but it must be such a relief to finally know. That cake looks amazing and I wish you all the luck in making it gluten free.

Thank you. Glad the tests are all finished now 🙂
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter – I'm sure that will be a big adjustment, but that's great that you finally have an answer and all the testing is finished. Sometimes that is the toughest part!-Laurenwww.shootingstarsmag.net

Oh that cake looks tasty Claire. My sister has Coeliac Disease too and she has to come up with loads of different recipes for stuff. 🙂

Thanks you Morgan. We have been so creative so far so hopefully we can start finding some nice recipe 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing this story! Answers are good to have even if they are not the ones we would have chosen, far better than uncertainty and more needles. Blessings on her and you and you love and walk the journey with your daughter.

Thank you Pam. Yes it is. My Daughter started to have nightmares about needles so hopefully no more 🙂
Claire, I am so sorry that you did not get the result you had hoped for. It is never easy watching your child go through that and then having to make drastic lifestyle changes. I remember when my son had an anaphylactic response at 1 1/2 years old and we didn't immediately know what caused it. It took 3 months until we could get the allergy testing done…so for those 3 months, we carried an epipen never knowing what could trigger the allergy. Then he was finally tested, I remember I kept thinking, please don't be nuts, please don't be nuts, I'd rather a shellfish allergy. But sure enough, it was nuts. And walnuts of all things…my very favorite baking ingredient. But I have to say 3 years later, we are so fully adapted to the lifestyle of reading labels and asking about ingredients everywhere we go that it's nearly impossible to remember life before this change. You will adjust quickly and your mini me will feel so much better with the changes! Shelbee

Aww, sorry to hear this Shelbee. It must have been so hard and your son was so young. I am hoping this will start improving her health now and her vitiligo as she gets older.
Hi Claire, although it may not be the news we want to hear, it is such a relief when a final diagnosis is given. It's better the devil we know and we can learn to adapt. That cake looks lovely I will be back to comment over the weekend.Thank you for hosting.xx

Thank you Debbie. Yes I am so glad the tests are over and we can move on now.
Knowledge is power and it gives her the tools she needs to manage her challenges. While not easy, you now know the rules and have some idea how to play the game. The unknown is so much more frustrating as you can try x but it may in fact make y worse if you are working under the wrong assumptions about the problem. I wish all of you well on this journey.
