Styling A Long Pink Coat And A Pleated Maxi Skirt.
So today I am sharing a Flashback Friday post of an outfit I wore in New York a few years ago.
Looking back at these photos brings back such lovely memories of the city, and I still love this combination of a long pink coat and a statement pleated maxi skirt.
There is something special about an outfit that feels feminine, elegant and comfortable all at once, and this look ticks all those boxes for me.
Loved everything about our visit to New York and reliving the moment again as I found some old photo whilst I have been giving my old blog posts a make overs.

Hello friends, Happy Friday. Love this look and still wear these clothes.

In the amazing streets of New York City, I was wearing a long pink coat paired with a flowing pleated maxi skirt, which to me is like a painting.
Also, choosing the perfect coat to complement a maxi skirt is like adding the final brushstroke to a masterpiece.
A long coat is one of those pieces that can instantly step up an outfit, and this soft blush-pink one is no exception.
I love the delicate colour, the flattering wrap style and the waist belt, which gives the coat a lovely shape without compromising on comfort.
Pink is such a versatile colour, too.
It works beautifully with neutrals, denim and darker shades, making it a wonderful choice for adding a little colour to your autumn and winter wardrobe.
For this look, I kept things simple underneath with a white top, allowing the coat to take centre stage.
The longer length also creates a lovely silhouette, especially when paired with a flowing maxi skirt.

Can You Wear A Long Coat With A Maxi Dress?
Can You Wear A Long Coat With A Maxi Dress?
Absolutely!
Embracing the fusion of elegance and practicality, pairing a long coat with a maxi dress creates a beautiful outfit that looks as though it has sophistication and flair.
What Is The Best Coat To Wear With A Maxi Dress?
For maximal versatility and timeless elegance, consider opting for a classic trench coat.
With its clean lines and sophisticated silhouette, a trench coat effortlessly drapes over a maxi dress, adding a touch of refined charm to any ensemble.
Alternatively, a tailored wool coat in a neutral shade such as camel or rose offers both warmth and style, effortlessly raising a maxi dress from casual to chic.
Ultimately, the best coat to wear with a maxi dress is one that reflects your personal style while complementing the silhouette and color palette of your dress, ensuring a harmonious and effortlessly chic look for any occasion.

The real fun in this outfit comes from the pleated maxi skirt. With its mix of blue, navy, pink and purple tones, it adds plenty of interest and movement to the overall look.
I love how the floaty pleats contrast with the more structured shape of the coat.
It’s a combination that feels polished without being too formal, and the patterned skirt brings a playful touch to an otherwise classic outfit.
If you’re wondering how to style a pleated maxi skirt during the colder months, a long coat is a great place to start. You can also pair your skirt with a chunky knit, a fitted jumper or a simple blouse, depending on the occasion.

The trick is to balance the volume of the skirt with pieces that give the outfit some shape. A belted coat is perfect for this, as it defines the waist while still allowing the skirt to flow beautifully underneath.
There’s something about New York that makes getting dressed feel even more exciting. The towering buildings, colourful billboards, busy streets and unmistakable city atmosphere make such a wonderful backdrop for outfit photos.
This was one of those outfits that felt just right for a day in the city. The long coat kept things cosy, while the pleated maxi skirt added movement and a touch of colour. It’s a look that felt classic but still had a little personality.
Although these photos are from a few years ago, I think the individual pieces are just as wearable today. That’s one of the things I love about building a wardrobe around versatile styles rather than chasing every passing trend.

How To Recreate This Look:
If you’d like to try this combination yourself, here are a few simple styling ideas:
How To Recreate This Look:
- Choose a soft pink coat. Blush, dusty rose and pastel pink are all lovely options.
- Add a printed pleated maxi skirt. Look for a design that incorporates pink or complementary colours to tie the outfit together.
- Keep your top simple. A white or cream top creates a clean base and lets the outerwear and skirt shine.
- Introduce a neutral handbag. Tan, cognac or beige accessories work beautifully with pink.
- Layer for the season. Add warm tights, boots and a cosy scarf when the temperature drops.
You don’t need to find identical pieces to recreate the look. The beauty of this outfit is in the combination of soft colour, flowing fabric and classic tailoring.
