It has cooled down here lately, so a nice excuse to wear my long sleeved cotton maxi dresses.
Today I’m sharing a little over 50 style inspiration, for those of us who love a flowery dress, and also feeling feminine, floaty, and fabulously put-together (without overheating!). Or being too cold!!
There’s something timeless about wearing my favourite long-sleeved Joules dress.

Today I wanted to share a little style inspiration for those of us over 50 who still love to wear flowery dresses, feel chic and comfy, especially when the sun decides to play peekaboo.
So let’s talk about something you might not expect to wear in October, a summer dress.
But not just any dress, this beautiful Joules number that’s made for sunny strolls, coffee dates, and garden party twirls.
Now, you all know how much I adore Joules, their dresses always manage to feel classic but never boring, don’t they?
This one caught my eye instantly.
Dreamy florals with a touch of whimsy.
And that fit? Oh-so-flattering on a curvier figure (especially if you’re like me and want something that moves with you, not against you).

So, Autumn is one of my favourite seasons for fashion.
It is the perfect time to bring out cosy layers for this dress, ankle boots, scarves and favourite long-sleeved tops. Not forgetting, layering up the cozy cardigans.
One piece I always find myself reaching for is this classic long-sleeved Joules dress.
It is comfortable, easy to wear and, most importantly, incredibly versatile.
So today I’m revisiting one of my favourite autumn outfits and sharing some simple ways to style a long-sleeved dress for autumn fashion over 50.
Because getting dressed in your 50s and beyond isn’t about following every trend.
For me, it is about finding clothes that feel good, suit your lifestyle and can be worn in lots of different ways.
And the great thing about a classic long-sleeved dress is that it gives you the perfect starting point for autumn layering.

A long-sleeved dress is one of those wardrobe staples that can work hard throughout autumn.
For a simple everyday look, pair it with your favourite ankle boots. Add a cosy cardigan, blazer or jacket when the temperature drops.
For autumn 2026, I would also experiment with richer seasonal colours and textures.
Brown, burgundy, forest green and warm neutrals are particularly easy to introduce into an existing wardrobe.
Autumn is all about layering, and a long-sleeved dresses makes a great base layer.
Try wearing it underneath a sleeveless knitted vest, cardigan or V-neck jumper. You can let the neckline, cuffs or hem peek through to add another layer of colour and texture.
One of the easiest ways to make an old outfit feel new is with accessories.
A checked, patterned, or autumn-toned scarf can instantly transform a simple outfit. Scarves are also a practical extra layer on cooler days.
For a smarter autumn outfit, wear your long-sleeved top underneath a blazer.
This is an easy outfit for lunch with friends, shopping, travelling or a casual day out. Add jeans and ankle boots for a relaxed but polished look.
You don’t need to buy a completely new wardrobe every season.
Instead, use accessories and layering pieces to introduce autumn colours. Think chocolate brown, camel, burgundy, forest green and warm neutrals.

Fourthly, Styling A Maxi Dress Tip.
brought this dress a few weeks ago for my holiday. When I seen it in the shop I loved it straight away. It screamed buy me! When I got it home and tried it on, I hated it!
Far to wide, too baggy around the top. So it was take it back to the shops and not have a new dress for my holidays or pack it in the case.
Then a though came into my head. What about wearing a black top underneath and finding a chunky belt to wear with it!?
I tipped my t-shirt draw upside down and emptied my wardrobe to find a belt.
I am so glad I did as it looked a lot better.
So my tip of the day for styling a maxi dress: Add a belt!
