There’s something about getting dressed that should make you smile before you’ve even left the house. And this outfit definitely did that for me!
I brought this outfit back in May, but after our visit to New York, it warm up here and I started wearing my dresses and never got chance to wear them again.
So I can not wait to start wearing these pieces again in autumn.
I wore this outfit while out and about in New York and I couldn’t resist stopping for a photo in front of this fabulous Mickey Mouse-inspired street art on our fun travels.
Because if you’re going to take outfit photos, you might as well find a colourful backdrop, right?

The star of the outfit is this gorgeous pale pink sheer blouse covered in burgundy polka dots.
I love a good polka dot. They’re playful without being too young, and they’re one of those patterns that can instantly make an outfit feel more interesting. After all I have been wearing polka dots ever since I started the blog, 15 years!!
The blouse has a lovely high neckline with little buttons and slightly voluminous sleeves, giving it a feminine, floaty feel. I did need to buy a little vest to go underneath as it is a bit see through!!
And then there are the trousers…
Burgundy wide-leg trousers are such a useful addition to a wardrobe. They feel a little more interesting than black, but they’re surprisingly easy to style.
I particularly love how the burgundy picks up the darker pink/burgundy spots in the blouse, so although the pieces are quite different, they work together. This trousers will get lots of wear this autumn.

Wide-leg trousers have definitely become one of my wardrobe favourites, this year.
They’re comfortable, stylish and perfect when you want something that looks put together without feeling restrictive. I love wide leg jeans too. Don’t even start me on palazzo trousers. I love then but I can fall upstairs in them.
I also think they work brilliantly for an over-50 wardrobe because you can dress them up or down.

I finished the outfit with white trainers, because I wanted the look to feel modern and wearable rather than overly dressed up.
I love mixing something feminine and floaty with something casual.
The blouse says pretty and polished. The trainers say I still want to walk around the city without my feet complaining! That’s a combination I can get behind.

One thing I’ve learnt about getting older is that I don’t want my clothes to become boring. If anything, I want to have more fun with fashion.
Pink and burgundy might not be the first colour combination you think of, but I really like them together.
The soft pink keeps the outfit light, while the deep burgundy adds a little sophistication.
And let’s face it, a colourful outfit makes an ordinary day feel a little more special. And if, like me, comfort is becoming increasingly important, wide-leg trousers are definitely worth a look!

My Over-50 Style Tip.
Wear the clothes that make you feel like YOU. There are so many rules about what women should and shouldn’t wear as we get older.
But honestly?
So if you love polka dots, wear polka dots. If you like floral pattern, wear florals. If you love trainers, wear trainers. Lastly, if you adore pink, wear pink.
And if you want to combine all three while standing in front of a giant cartoon mural of Mickey Mouse, do it!! Go for it! Haha! Fashion should be fun at every age.
