A Walk Up Kinder Scout With Mollie The Border

A Walk Up Kinder Scout With Mollie The Border Collie. Hello friends. Happy Saturday. Last Saturday we took a nice and fun family walk up Kinder Scout in Derbyshire. Kinder Scout is in the Peak District in England.

We have been on a few walks in the Peak District lately and we have been enjoying getting out in the fresh air and seeing some amazing views of the Great British countryside.

Mollie usually does not come with us as it has been quite warm here in the summer afternoons.

This time we decided Mollie The Collie could come on a walk with us as the weather was not very warm so she would not be too hot travelling and walking midday heat.

Kinder Scout part of the moor and it is 636 metres above sea level. It is also the highest point in the Peak District.

The highest point in Derbyshire, and the highest point in the East Midlands.

A walk to the top was now called for!!

Is Kinder Scout Suitable For Dogs?

Mollie loved the walk up Kinder Scout. She was eager to run and climb up the peaks. She really enjoyed the walk. I am so glad we took her.

We did have a little trouble just as we set off as we had to pick her up over the wood stile in between the fields.

There was not enough space to climb under it.

she hated us picking her up!!

She was dying to get out of our arms carrying her over and fell to the ground funny where her paw slipped awkwardly under her body.

I was just praying she did not break a bone how she fell but she was fine, thankfully. Bless her.

We let her off the lead at one point so she could run free as she was in hurry more than we were!! but we put her back on on the lead as we headed for the top just in case she fell.

Mollies Fears:

Mollie was only scared of one thing! Getting her feet wet. We had to cross the waterfalls sometimes because there were a few turns and she hates water.

(As you can see above the waterfalls were fun to walk across for us humans!!).

Not too deep at all, apart from when my son was trying to talk Mollie into walking across and he slipped out of nowhere. Somehow his trouser leg was soaking to the knee!!

That is when we all turned around to laugh as he wouldn’t have been too happy if he saw us laughing!!

Mollie did start getting used to the water towards the end.

Getting braver and braver each time we crossed.

When we got to the top we could also watch a little dog from afar, it was jumping off the rocks at the over top of Kinder Scout which was putting my heart in my mouth. It jumped down quite far at one point but was fine and really enjoying itself.

The route we took up the hill was challenging with a path along the waterfalls, especially steep near the top that made it very hard work for me.

Mollie was long gone with the family Whilst I struggled to the top.

I am so glad we could take another route down which was a lovely walk down.

Sheep

It was quite moving to see Mollies reaction when she saw the sheep in the fields. She had not seen sheep since she was a pup but never noticed them last time.

You can see the first time she saw some sheep here: A Muddy Walk-In Bakewell: UK Travel And Lifestyle Blog.

I wonder what went through her mind and if she knew she was bread to round sheep up. Could this have been her dream job!!

What beautiful views and photos! Glad Mollie wasn’t hurt… I tend to always be the one that slips and manages to get wet when out walking.

Thanks Joanne, always a worry when dogs slide or fall.

Hi Claire, this kind of walk really appeals to me. Lovely views and a little challenging. Mollie sounds a bit precious when it cokmes to water mind! One of our dogs hates walking over twigs, but of a pain as walk in the sticks!.. It is funny to think that dogs don’t know their purpose. Spookily we have a Belgian shepherd that a friend of ours, who is from Belgium, told to ‘sit’ in her language and he did without hesitation! Maybe dogs do know these things?
