Happy National Pumpkin Day!

Happy National Pumpkin Day! When is National Pumpkin Day? (Hint: It’s today! 26th October).

Hello my lovelies, it’s Claire here and I’m so excited because today is National Pumpkin Day! Isn’t it just the perfect time to celebrate all things cosy, orange and autumnal?

It was only a few days ago, we were at the Pumpkin farm, picking out this years pumpkin. It is a family tradition each year and then afterwards we go for a nice coffee to warm us up.

I’ve been thinking about pumpkins all morning: carving them, baking with them, decorating with them, and even drinking them (yeah, pumpkin spice lattes, I’m looking at you!).

It’s a little nostalgic, warm, and enjoyable. Let’s dig into a warm pumpkin-filled post together. Shall we?

Happy National Pumpkin Day! But first, here are a few posts from the last few years:

Firstly, The Pumpkin Farm Adventure.

Autumn Days Out. Earlier today we visited the pumpkin farm. A family tradition, each year.

Early as in early in the day, but late as most of the best pumpkins have been picked by now.

They are only open a few more days and then closed until next October. I wonder what happens to the leftover pumpkins as there are still loads.

When you set foot on a pumpkin farm, you’re not just selecting the perfect orange pumpkin; you’re immersing yourself in an experience that captures the essence of this enchanting season.

Secondly, Pick Your Own Pumpkins In Nottingham.

Pick Your Own Pumpkins In Nottingham. We have been going for the past few years and have so much fun and laughter together. The best thing is it is free to enter and we take loads of photos.

Pick Your Own Pumpkins In Nottingham. It might be free to enter but we do buy a lot of pumpkins and things between us while we are there.

Pumpkins to make soup, to make roasted pumpkin seeds, and some to cut out faces on them for Halloween.

Thirdly, Visit To The Pumpkin Farm And Some Recipes To Try.

My daughter visited this Pumpkin farm last year with my son’s girlfriend and I’ve been waiting to go all year!

It is a shame we went when it was raining as they got some amazing photos last year but happy to have eventually got there!!

Also in other news my son is home from the hospital and learning to live his new lifestyle changes.

So much to learn about living with Diabetes, type 1. Life really isn’t fair sometimes.

Thankfully we found out in time as a few more days could have been another story. Such an emotional few weeks. I am worn out.

Why Pumpkins Deserve Their Day.

Pumpkins they’re more than just Halloween props.

They evoke crisp air, golden leaves, evening fires, and soft scarves. When October rolls in, pumpkins signal that we’ve entered the season of comfort.

They’re versatile too.

Roast them, steam them, puree them, or carve them.

They bring colour to the garden, a smile to children’s faces when turning them into jack-o’-lanterns, and warmth to our tummies when turned into creamy soup or sweet pie.

I like to think National Pumpkin Day is a gentle nudge: slow down, embrace autumn, and let the pumpkin magic seep in.

Decorating & Carving Tips:

Decorating & Carving Tips. Because a celebration isn’t complete without a bit of creative fun:

  1. Carve with care: Use small serrated knives, draw your design with a marker first, and scoop guts into a bowl for roasting.
  2. Use them as decor: Place mini pumpkins on shelves, pair with autumn foliage and candles for a warm display.
  3. Paint them: Use soft white or metallic paints for a chic pumpkin decor look if carving isn’t your thing.

I plan on doing a little pumpkin corner in my living room, orange, cream, gold tones, cosy, soft, and glowing.

Tips For A Successful Pumpkin Picking Trip:

Tips For A Successful Pumpkin Picking Trip:

  1. Firstly, Plan Ahead. Check when they first open. We were going to go this weekend but they are not open yet! Then check the opening hours. See if they have an admission fee.
  2. Also if you are taking children see if there are any activities available at your chosen pumpkin farm. Consider visiting on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds if possible.
  3. Secondly, Dress Appropriately. You might need your wellies if it has been raining. Wear comfortable clothes like I did. Stretchy leggings, a warm jumper, and wellies.
  4. Sturdy footwear is key. As you likely be walking up and down the field looking for the perfect pumpkin.
  5. Thirdly, Bring Some Cash. Some farms may only accept cash for admission and pumpkin purchases, so it’s a good idea to have some on hand.

Thoughts & Musings.

Sitting with a mug of something warm, watching the leaves tumble outside, I think about how pumpkins remind me of seasons, transitions, softness, endings and beginnings.

They’re symbolic of harvest, of gratitude, of nature’s cycles.

I love everything about this time of year, do you too?

Happy National Pumpkin Day!

So I hope today you’ll pause, maybe carve or bake or decorate.

Let the warmth of autumn fill you. And — of course — enjoy something pumpkin flavoured. (I may well sip on something spiced later this evening after work!)

Thank you for reading, dear ones. Let me know how you celebrate National Pumpkin Day. And if you try a pumpkin recipe, send me a photo (I love seeing your creativity!).

P.S. I might just be looking for the perfect pumpkin to take home tonight too as I work where they sell them too.
